Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates Safely Offering Elective Surgeries

Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates’ specialty-trained surgeons have resumed elective surgery, or scheduled nonemergency surgery, for their patients. Since the stocks of health care resources, including personal protective equipment, ventilators, etc., are at the appropriate levels, Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates will offer elective and emergency surgical treatment and in-office care while continuing to follow health authority safety guidelines to protect their patients and staff. Patients in need of specialized bone, joint and muscle care are encouraged to call (860) 482-8539 to schedule a safe appointment in Torrington at 245 Alvord Park Road and in Bristol at 281 North Main St.

“In order to conserve the supply of personal protective equipment, surgery for nonlife-threatening conditions was potponed, and with supplies now at more than adequate levels, we’re proud to safely resume elective surgery to help our patients experience pain relief and regain their function,” says Dr. Lane Spero, orthopedic spine surgeon at Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates. “Additionally, with no COVID-19 cases at our surgery center, we are performing surgeries at Litchfield Hills Surgery Center instead of area hospitals.”

In the state-of-the-art operating rooms of Litchfield Hills Surgery Center, the surgeons of Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates and their specialized medical staff strictly follow the latest and highest standards in patient safety and are taking extra precautions. Additional patient screening processes will be enforced before scheduling and performing surgery.

The practice also continues to adhere to the strict protocols they have in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in their offices. These protocols extend to pre- and postoperative care in addition to the measures taken to keep operating rooms and equipment sterile. The safety policies, commitments and actions of Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates include the following:

  • Patients are required to wear face coverings.
  • Staff are disinfecting between patients.
  • Staff are screening and taking temperatures on all of their patients.
  • The practice is limiting the number of people allowed in their waiting room.
  • The practice is restricting the number of visitors allowed to accompany a patient.
  • All of the practice’s staff members are wearing face masks.

“Our state and community have made incredible efforts to reduce viral spread and help our health system and front-line health care workers, and we are thankful for the patience and support of our patients during this time,” says Dr. Spero. “As COVID-19 continues, we’ve continued to make critical adjustments to the way we operate in an effort to protect our patients, staff and communities, and we remain dedicated to safely taking care of all our patients’ orthopedic needs.”

As Litchfield Hills Orthopedic Associates resumes elective surgery, they continue to offer initial and follow-up appointments in their offices, including physical and occupational therapy visits. In the event of a fall or other accident, the practice also offers same-day, in-office appointments to provide immediate care for urgent orthopedic injuries, such as sprains, fractures or dislocations.
